Subject: Best logging program?

What is the "best" and/or "most functionally complete" logging program
available?  The best one I've found is Hyperlog.  I need something for
long term logging versus contesting, etc.  Hyperlog is good but I'd
like to find something for Windows.

If there isn't anything comparable for Windows/OS2, I wonder how much
business would be out there for such a program? (may be a good project
to start)

I recently did a tuneup on my 1990 Isuzu Trooper, and I'm noticing
MAJOR engine noise in both my scanner and 2m/440 rig.  I've determined
that the problem is _NOT_ the spark plug wires, and this leaves only
the spark plugs themselves, or perhaps the distributor cap.

I used Autolite Platinum plugs.  Has anyone experienced noise problems
with these?  The problem is definately coming in via antenna leads or
directly into the radios (ie: NOT the power cables), since I've been
able to duplicate the problem when using the HT in the car.

Help!

           NOVICE CLASS SCHEDULED TO START MARCH 31...
                 PREREGISTRATION REQUIRED...
        HANDS ON TRAINING/CONSTRUCTION OF FIRST STATION
                     LEARN THE THEORY!!!

  TEARA (Triangle East Amateur Radio Association) is scheduling a Novice
Class amateur radio class to begin March 31. This isn't your average
amateur radio class...We're NOT teaching the technician elements in
this class, we're trying to teach CW and technical skills through hands
on experience/classroom radio theory classes.
  First, soldering skills will be taught. The students will receive a
soldering iron and simple tools required in the class as part of their
student package.
  Simple DC power supply theory will be taught and a basic 12 volt
supply capable of powering the RX and TX later in the class will be
assembled and tested.
  Next, All students will build a 40 meter CW/SSB rx in the classroom.
Superhet receiver theory and soldering/assembly skills will be taught.
This RX will allow the student to listen to CW on the air along with
the CW tapes and classroom practice. The rx is a commercially
available monoband 40 meter rx.
  The last stage of the program will revolve around the construction of
a simple 40 meter CW TX. Transmitter theory will be taught, and crystals
will be supplied for the transmitter.
  Simple antenna construction will be covered, and the students will
prepare their new novice station for the day that their ticket arrives.
  This class is not restricted to new prospective hams, and licensed
hams who would like to learn radio theory may find this a rewarding
class to enroll in. It will allow a person to learn CW, basic radio
theory, and learn some hands on construction techniques that will be
helpful throughout their ham career.
  This class was actually spurrred from questions over the last year or
so from new hams who wish to learn how radio works, construction, etc.
This definately becomming a lost art, but is how many of us got out
start 20 years or so ago. This not a cheap class, as a student will
receive: Soldering iron, solder, basic tools, kits for a 12 vold dc
power supply, RX kit TX kit, study materials, and CW tapes.

Are they really that expensive?  With automation, labor is no longer
as large a fraction in the price of electronics nowadays.  Thus, you
can't expect to compare built prices with kit prices.  In addition,
most hams are now appliance operators and there is very little in the
way of economy of scale.  The volume is low and the costs high.  Is it
any small wonder that kits are expensive?

Anyone have a line on the rubber/plastic gasket between the speaker cone and
metal frame?  I've several older Sony type speakers that, over the years, have
had their rubber fall apart.  I've tried the manufacturer, but for several
hundred dollars, they'll sell me the entire woofer assembly.  I'd rather do it
myself.

announced.  I could fit it into my car, plus use it at home.

with me?  Should I get it at HRO for $967 ?  It's only a 10-minute

Instead of ragging on Internet which Ramsey may not see, how about
convincing John that he needs to upgrade the designs? If more hams
buy his designs after the upgrade you can bet he will do it. But, like
the Corvair, bad publicity can destroy a product even though it was
upgraded to a very good product.

OK.  As I had said in my post, I had heard it could but had

I have been able to search cell phone frequencies using the 12.5Khz
step.   One has to bump the frequency on occasion as the FT530
will stop searching one step short of the center frequency.   This
does not prevent you from listening however.

I agree, transmission in AM mode is illegal if you do not have
gov't approved equipment and licensing.   Listening to cell
phones is legal for me in Canada (although rather boring)...
